I am delighted to announce that I’ll be performing as part of Magnetic Opera’s production of The Medium, the opera by Gian Carlo Menotti first performed in 1946. Having played with Magnetic Opera in this year’s Fringe performance of La Boheme, I’m very excited to be involved! Tickets are on sale now to hear us perform in Barons Court Theatre, London on the 27th and 28th January.
It’s been a busy time during the run up to Christmas but I found the time to visit Edinburgh to be involved in a brilliant project created by The Katet’s Mike Kearney. This piano and string arrangement of a Katet song, Balloon, was arranged, rehearsed, recorded, mixed, mastered and released all within 24 hours! This was to raise money and awareness for the Edinburgh based charity Streetwork.
This is such a beautiful song so go ahead and have a listen. It’s not too late to donate on their justgiving page – please give all that you can!

One of my favourite things to do as a violinist is collaborate with composers and other artists to provide music for other art forms. Here you can listen to me playing with the Materia Collective on their cover track of Disappearing by Jessica Curry. I often work alongside Edinburgh based composer Luci Holland (check out her website!) who arranged and produced this track.
Last Sunday was the incredible launch of The Katet’s new album, Guillotine. I had the pleasure of being featured on this album as part of the cinematic string section. The launch took place in the Edinburgh venue, Summerhall, and the Katet had no problem completely packing the place! It was an absolute joy working with such a group of talented musicians with amazing stage presence. Go out and get yourselves a copy of Guillotine right now!

The past week of concerts has been exhilarating, exhausting and incredibly rewarding! I had the pleasure of leading Mahler Players during four performances of Mahler’s 9th Symphony in a mini tour around the Highlands, providing a brilliant standard to audiences from Ardross to Perth Concert Hall. As always, it was a pleasure working alongside such a group of talented musicians, as well as working with inspiring conductor Tomas Leakey.
It is safe to say I’ll have the luscious melodies of the final movement in my head for weeks to come!

Next weekend Turadh will be playing at the Fasgadh Festival in Dunain Community Woodland. The festival will feature live music all day, including an afternoon ceilidh and storytelling. Our time is yet to be confirmed but the day starts at 11am and lasts well into the night – hope to see you there!
Last month at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, I performed with the new touring company Magnetic Opera for their production of Puccini’s La Boheme. Using a special chamber arrangement of the music by Kenneth Roberts and only seven cast members, Magnetic Opera made an engaging and accessible performance of the celebrated opera. The production received a 5 star review from the Scottish Herald which you can read here.
Last weekend the Highland Chamber Orchestra performed in Lochaber High School, Fort William, and in Dornoch Cathedral. It was a brilliantly varied programme including music from Rossini, Tchaikovsky and Kodaly, as well as featuring soloist Katy Bell performing Arthur Sullivan’s cello concerto. The orchestra also performed a new work by Thurso based composer Katrina Gordon, entitled Fingerless Dougal. You can find out more about the Highland Chamber Orchestra from their website.
I am so excited to have been chosen for the Edinburgh Quartet Apprentice Competition, where string players wishing to pursue a career in chamber music will be given the chance to play as a member of the Edinburgh based ensemble. It is so brilliant to have opportunities like this to work towards, looking forward to the play through day in April!
Last month I had the pleasure of writing a piece for Arts Professional’s Photodiary series. I photographed my activity to show a week in the life of a professional musician, showing the challenges as well as the rewards. You can have a read of the article here.
